the tapering nozzle with two filed apertures, on a turned shaft with two discoid knobs above a ribbed cone, with low two-stage base, unburnished patina, 3cm repair to upper rim and small repair to nozzle at level of aperture.

Private collection England. With a label underneath of “ex Sothebys”.

Of all the domestic utensils that have formed the basis of collections over the centuries and which also provide the kind of link to the distant but concrete past of our ancestors that make of an object more than an object, candlesticks are the most loved and the most enduring.
